From falling to flying

I'm getting there folks. If nothing else, I feel pretty good about how the week went overall and I think I'm doing pretty well. But as usual, there's more to say. SO.....

Things that make me mad....

1. I'm sick. I just have a stupid cold, but to make life more fun, I can't move my neck or shoulders from the excruciating pain. Mr. Blogger tried to rub it out and I was screaming. Consequently, I won't be able to write much since it hurts to move. But I'll be damned if I go much longer without blogging.

2. They have just scheduled me for teller training (no, I'm not a teller but everybody has to learn the system) on the day that I was supposed to have my follow up appointment with my OB about the miscarriage. Now I'll have to change my appointment. Grrr....

Things that make me sad...

1. What's with all the couples splitting up these days? Does no one want to stick it out anymore? And now I hear that both Denzel Washington and Madonna are on the verge of splitsville (to their respective spouses) as well. Hmmmm....they would make an interesting couple together though.

2. Valentine's Day is coming and I have no money to spend on MB. Any ideas?

3. I need to figure out how to spend more time blogging, since I feel like everyone is going to forget about me. I would be super duper sad to lose all my new friends. Did I mention that my mother just loves all of you? That's no faint praise, let me tell you.

Things that make me happy / laugh...

1. I got a card in the mail from Nancy (Mom / Ma'am / Me) and it was lovely and heartfelt and I can't thank her enough. But THANK YOU!!

2. This video says everything about why I managed to stay up until 11:00 ONE NIGHT last week, because I was NOT going to miss Project Runway.

3. Supercat, up there, makes me want to fly (courtesy of Cute Overload).

4. Emily and Madge are preggers. You can't get much better than that.

Have a good week ahead everybody!!!

Ugh, sorry you are not feeling well. I think the weird weather is hitting everyone. Hope you feel better soon.

I am so glad you liked the card. I do enjoy sending mail so now that I have your address you'll probably get the occasional goody. ;-)

Don't worry about your new blog buds forgetting you -- we know you will be back to former blogging speed when things settle down a bit with the new job and everything else.

Congrats to Emily and Madge!

We could never forget you, Brookie.

Hang in there. It sounds like you're doing well with the new job.

Where do you find these cat pictures? Do you take them?

Welcome back. How could we forget about you?

Something for Mr. Blogger? There is the coupon route. Hmm, I'll think about it, nothing is really coming to mind.

Load up on vitamin C and wash your hands a lot at work. I remember working at the mall and everyone always had the same cold. Any time you wrok somplace with recycled air, you'll get what I call "mall cough". Your body will get used to it.

As far as Valentine's gifts, the thoughtful IOU/coupon route is always good. (Good for one back rub, one "get out of jail free", one chore swap) Or baked goods. Sounds like MB loves to eat, so food is probably a good option.

oh my god, that clip from Project Runway had me crying! Santino does the best impression of Tim. God, I love that show. It's so addicting. It's not very esy to type in the dark.

For Valentines Day, I've done the same thing Tigerlily suggests. I write notes (or even uses kids valentines) and leave them in all sorts of clever places. In his wallet, pants pockets, brief case, on the dash of the car, attached to his favorite mug, under his breakfast plate etc. I've also bought like five cards at Hallmark--some gushy, some funny, some sexy--and mailed them to my own house so he'd get something in the mail.

Since MB likes sweets, see if you can find a bakery that makes extraordinary pastries. My husband is a bread guy and one year I got him a heart shaped loaf of bread from a French bakery in Virginia...

One other inexpensive and over the top Valentines gesture.

Writing on the mirror in red lipstick....

Sorry to hear you've got another cold and aches in your shoulders :-( Get well soon!

I'm sure stress lowers your resistance to all the new bugs you will have just 'met' at the new job! You really do need to dose up with the vitamin C - and echinacea! That will boost your immunity.

Sounds like the job is going OK, though :-D And you've managed a blog again! Hurray! I look for your blog every day. (Ok, sometimes several times a day. You know I don't do the time difference thing very well!)

Reschedule that OB appt soonest! Was it impossible for you to tell work you already had an important medical appt on the day of the training? Or are you being too 'work-focussed' as usual - not wanting to upset things in the new job? Work/life balance! Don't forget! ;-)

Valentine's day? Big smoochy cuddles are cheap! OK, I know, you're tired, ill and aching! You've got a week to shape up! ;-D

no one is going to forget about you.

Gift ideas for MB? I gave my husband a "spa" night. Candles, bubble bath and a massage....yeah, and that too. He loves it and if you want to see a dog on point just mention the words "spa night" around him.

I've done the coupon thing too. Early in our relationship they would be for romantic things like massages, but the last set I gave him had coupons that said things like "Good for fifteen minutes of uninterrupted time to explain your point of view." Funny how things change!

We could NEVER forget about you!! Get better, take your time, and don't worry about the blogging world.

Ideas for Vday? I personally hate the holiday. But I'm making Hoop a "Dirty Deed" mixed CD. Music to shag by. LOL. I'm also going to make a CD of all the songs we've car sung to.

I can assure you, you won't be forgotten.

Sorry to hear you're not feeling well! I blame the weather.

Madonna and Guy? Splitsville? For some strange reason, this makes me kinda sad. I think they're a good couple. I hope they can stick it out. God, I sound stupid. LOL.

Ok. I found a link for "Quirky Landmarks" so my cheap dates are usually taking my SO to places we haven't seen yet, taking a picnic and pictures while we're there.

http://cityguide.aol.com/sandiego/quirky_landmarks/?page=city

So, that's one link. The other ideas I found were:

1) A Message In A Bottle Surprise
I bought a decorative small colorful bottle with a cork. Wrote a nice love letter on a piece of paper with burnt corners. Rolled the paper, put it in the bottle, inserted the cork and threw it into a bath, full of water, essential oils and bubbles. My darling was surprised not only by the bath, prepared for him, but also for a letter. -- not my idea but some other fun person.

2) A walk in the park
3) My boyfriend and I are both college students and are broke the majority of the time. For our anniversary we took a trip to Wal-Mart. we split up, and picked out cards, flowers, and a variety of other gifts for each other. At a certain time and place we met up in the store, and presented our gifts to each other. Then we put them all back. It was a night I will always remember, filled with laughter and love! Total cost: $0.00! -- Another idea not my own but knowing how much I love Wal-Mart you'd understand. lol

Ok. Those are my helpful suggestions!!

Sorry you're not feeling good. That cat picture is too funny.

Good luck with valentines day stuff, me and Jimmy's 3 yr anniversary is coming up next week and I'm kinda stumped as well. Hm..

Strangely, I don't feel at all sad when celebrity couples break up. I'm all--HA! Schadenfreude--it's an ugly thing.

No VD gift ideas; we don't celebrate that holiday. That said, everyone likes cookies! Can't go wrong with food.

Have you tried Airborne? With two kids and the assorted ailments that they're packaged with, I swear by the stuff. I hardly ever catch their colds, or if I do, it's relatively minor symptoms, and sometimes it works to shorten an already-caught cold, too!
I like tink's v-day suggestion (I was eavesdropping - don't have much cash either this month...). And the other idea about unusual locations was interesting too...
Get better soon!

Oh, Brooke, we could never forget about you!! I'm still reading (tho lurking more as I'm busy at work more these days).
I know something you could give MB... I didn't post about this on my blog b/c I thought it was shameless whoring, BUT, you could buy a Singing Valentine's (it'd have to be a long distance phone call) from my chorus! It's only $20 bucks and yours truly and three of her friends (thus a barbershop quartet) would sing to him any time you'd like! Email me at my blog email if you're interested. Here's the website too:

I love the kitties - I have three and they have yet to make an appearance at A Hard Place - but they soon will.

I know about work and blogging - I tent to travel alot and I don't really like to blog on the road (I frankly don't like to connect on the road period - too much hassle). Blogging is good for late night at home or during some weird dead times at work.

But I have been behind so I feverishly posted something lat night on my sister blog - and last night found myself in the hotel bar belting out something I have to post before tonight - the Grammy's.

I think what you will find is that you can't do it every day but being the semi-creative and talkative being we all seem to be - you will have bursts of creativity that will stun you.

Or maybe just keep you awake.
