While my car windshield is being replaced (went to a friend's house yesterday, had a visit, said goodbye and got back in car to find
entire windshield shattered...yeah, these things only happen to me and you know it) and Mom is sleeping with Keira, I thought I'd take a not-easily-found moment to catch up.
K is fantastic and at her four-month-old visit to the doctor she weighed a whopping 13 lbs (double her birth weight). My once skinny mini is now chunky monkey. And I love it. Daddy does too.

Keira is doll.
What your employer did sounds a little illegal. They can seriously replace you while you're on maternity leave? I thought that was a no-no.
She's so cute! Eek!
I can't wait to see her!
And I, of course, have no opinion on the coup, being in the know and all.
(And btw, to my knowledge anyway, you're guaranteed a job, not your exact position. Not to mention that (sorry Brooke) she was gone for more than just maternity leave, she had extra disability time in there as well, it was QUITE some time she'd been out of the office.)
And you HAVE to tell your play group story! If you blog before next month that is. :)
I'm so sorry the work situation became such a trail. Hopefully, you'll be able to stay at home until you are ready to go back to work full time. But I totally understand the cost issue. One income is very tricky in SoCal.
Miss K is lovely. Enjoy every drooly moment.
The miss K is lovely! I can't beleive how big she is getting. I'm sorry about all the bank crap you went through..eww. You'll figure something out. Staying home with the baby I'm sure is a blast though :)
And to add to the commendt Jess left...I think what they did may be a little illegal too...they can't do that I don't think...may be worth looking into, I don't know.
Hope you all continue to do well and hopefully we will talk soon.
Gary
Well, as much as that sucks about your job (and I agree with Jess, that's not exactly legal for them to replace you) you sound really happy.
And speaking as a stay at home mom who gave up a corporate job with travel and perks and adult conversation, this is much, much more rewarding and even though it's harder to get a break for lunch or to pee than it was when I had an office and an 8-5 work day, this is a LOT more fun :o)
Congratulations, Brooke!
Yes, terrible things happened, and yes, it sucks (and oh, don't I know it, I had stuff happen too ... but that totally totally does suck), but I love how you're looking on the bright side!
All day with baby Keira! She is gorgeous. Makes me wish DC and San Diego were close, so our near-twins could play together, and we could commisserate over coffee!
Write often -- and post pictures of your beautiful, smart, charming babe! Speaking as a new second-time mom, the baby years are SO short....
Keira is completely beautiful, and getting to be quite the big girl.
I agree with jess and others that it doesn't sound like what your employer did was legal (certainly not appropriate or moral), but it sounds like it all worked out well for you and your family.
Best wishes and keep us posted on how this journey through motherhood is going!
I'm so proud of you I could cry. And that's not just my crazy postpartum hormones.
You've done a wonderful, wonderful thing by standing up for yourself. I think it's just as necessary for women to do that as ever--maybe more so!
Hi Brooke! Surprise!! I recently saw Nan and I asked her to email me the link to your blog. I just started blogging myself and I have to say that I LOVE your writing style. I'm impressed to how many comments you get. I think I have 5 people reading my posts and only two comment regularly. :(
Well, anyway, congrats on the beautiful baby girl K (very jealous about the girl part)!
