Boy is this kid going to hear about it later

I'm sorry it's been so long you guys. And the fact that many of you have worried over me has actually forced me out of bed and on to the computer for once. Boy do we need a laptop in this house.

Yes, both The Beanie and I (and a VERY patient Mr. Blogger) are still alive. Barely. Don't worry, everything's ok. I just can't function. It's as simple as that. Everyone else is fine.

After trips to the ER and several complete breakdowns where I was hysterical in the assumption that Beanie couldn't possibly be ok with all this vomitation...my doc finally pulled me out of work for a few weeks. Turns out I have Hyperemesis Gravidarum, which is frankly just Latin for "Food is not your friend".

As Betty said...how could I possibly get this when not only do I not fit the profile, but only 1-2% of women even get this. Oh no, that's right. OF COURSE I would get this.

Since not much stays down, I get IV's and I'm on my third attempt at an anti-nausea med. None of them have worked so far. And I gotta tell ya'...this one's not doing much more than making me constipated.

I of course, blame my mother. Since she was sick the entire pregnancy with me, it's possible that it's hereditary. Sure, EVERY SINGLE PART OF MY PHYSICAL BEING TAKES AFTER MY DAD'S SIDE OF THE FAMILY EXCEPT THIS. I take it back then. I blame my father.

I actually dragged myself out of the house, and wore makeup and everything, to get to a bridal shower last Saturday. It was a big victory for me. Well, right up to the part where I threw up while she was opening the gifts. Don't worry. I made it to a bathroom at least. What was I thinking, daring to eat a piece of cantaloupe.

That's just pretty much my life these days. It sucks. But what matters most is that Beanie still seems to be thriving. I still worry every time we wait to hear the heartbeat, or look to see the ultrasound results (who am I kidding...I don't "worry"...I cry so hard my contacts fall out), but so far so good.

HOWEVER...I WILL NOT MISS THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON. Sure, being stuck in the Rose Bowl stands while feeling a wave come upon me may be a tad bit inconvenient. And I have nothing to wear now that I'm at this weird "in-between maternity clothes and yet I can't button my regular jeans" phase. But that's ok.

Beanie WILL be indoctrinated from the womb and WILL come out doing the 8-clap. (And I'm so excited to buy these I can't stand it!)

Did you expect any less from me? Come on now. So the people sitting around me might freak out a tad.

That's ok. I'll just bring barf bags.

Hey, who knew that something that affects only 1-2% of women could affect two bloggers (just off the top of my head). Elizabeth over at Prop Your Hips Up Afterwards also has the blessed condition. If you don't read her already, pop over there and check her out, she's fabulous: http://elizabeth.typepad.com/blog/

I'm sorry you have to endure this, it sounds horrible. And to think that when we can't get pregnant we say to ourselves, "Oh, I'd love to have morning sickness if it meant I was pregnant!" Yeah, I'm sure you're really feeling that right about now.

I hope it lets up for you soon.

Let's think of how many terms we can come up with for vomiting. I'll start:
puke, hurl, spew, blow chunks, talk to Earl on the commodophone, ralph, talk on the porcelain phone, sell buicks, upchuck, barf.
Glad to hear from you, sorry your puke all the time, and SO GLAD things are progressing.

Very glad that all is technically well.

I SOOOO hear you on the barfing. I never expected to have it this bad. No family history of it; nothing. And it sucks ass.

I took Mignon's advice and have been wearing those acupressure bands on my wrists for several days. I think they're helping, because I took them off for fifteen minutes and promptly puked. And I have an extensive list of things that you can eat that are less unpleasant to puke up than other things--among them, Rice Krispies.

Thanks for the nice comment on my blog. I'm thinking of you always, too!

Yay!!! Sick Mom, Healthy Baby! I am so happy for you (yes, I was worried...)
Thanks for the update and you've inspired me to post my mom's shower gift (she bought two months early).
So glad to hear all is well (okay, relatively!!) Keep HYDRATED!! That's all I can say!

Well, your situation certainly does suck, girlfriend! SO sorry to hear about the constant vomitation. But, if my theory is true, as it usually is, this will only mean your labor will be a breeze, or your baby an absolute angel who sleeps through the night at 2 weeks and breastfeeds flawlessly. You *will* get a break eventually! Hang in there!! And go get some lemon drops to suck on!

Wow! Brooke blogged :-D So glad you were able to leave the 'great white telephone' long enough to post!

I do so hope everything else in your pregnancy and delivery will be easy and effortless. You deserve something to go well after all this puking!

Currently with Beanie's aunty and uncle and cousins, who all send very best wishes and love to the three of you :-)

Enjoy the game, and if you have to puke, make sure you puke on an opposition supporter! Oh, my dog! Did I just say that?! :-o

So glad to hear that you and Beanie are OK. Well, if throwing up your guts is truly being "OK..." But hey, it is a constant reminder of that incredible Beanie in your tummy. ;-)

Hang in there. Take care of yourself and of the little guy/girl.

This is all such great news! You're going to be a great mother. And don't worry...the baby is sucking all of the nutrients from you. I think the only one who is suffering is you. Find that magic food that you can keep down amidst all the vomiting and you'll feel like a new woman.

Glad to see you out and about, even if it is just in blogger world.

We'll be back to throwing parties at your place in no time...

YAY YAY YAY! YOU BLOGGED! I know it sucks to puke all the time, but it's just Beanie's way of letting you know it will all be worth it,

oh,and LOVE those UCLA baby outfits!!!

I'm sorry you don't feel good...that so sucks. But at least you're in the second trimester and Beanie is growing!! I've even been telling Mr. Wonderful about your ordeal/progress, and he's happy for you ('cept the puking of course).

I bet Beanie's going to be the cutest baby in the world ever!!!

Brooke, I'm tellin' ya - I'm with ya, sister. Been there, done that. It truly does suck. And I completely understand about the crying out of the eyes over wondering if the baby could ever be ok with all of the barfing. It will be fine. I've had a baby or two under these conditions. The baby will be fine, even though you aren't right now.
The sicker you are, the more "pregnant chemical" you have in your system, which means the pregnancy will last.
Boy, won't it be great after these long nine months, though? Damn, it is, too.
When you hold that little beanie in your arms for the first time, all this shit you've been feeling just melts away.
Then you can dress him or her in that cute UCLA outfit. Smiles!!

Ugh I'm so sorry you're sick. That shit is no joke, my best girlfriend in Columbus is just coming out of her first trimester and beginning to feel a bit better after having the same thing for her third pregnancy in a row. Hopefully it will make you feel a bit better to know that her two older children are healthy and happy and beautiful.

Hang in there!

Brooke, so glad to see you pop up with a new entry! I'm so sorry you are suffering the perpetual sickness. I can only assume God has the most wonderful child in store for you as a reward. Enjoy your opening game. Can you get a seat on the aisle for a quick exit? Either way, you certainly won't be the first person ever to throw up at a game. Hang in there and keep us posted.
